First-class service at low cost, the WHO praises Singapore

During an official meeting, the Director-General of the WHO praised the national health system in Singapore, for being able to provide first-class health care at the lowest cost among those of developed countries. In particular, the values of equity and overall health coverage of the city were particularly cited, as preferential route towards cohesion and stability. The system was able in fact to balance the benefits of competition and other market forces with the need for state intervention to direct these forces in the right direction, balancing the freedom to choose suppliers, services, and facilities with the obligation to ensure savings. Words of praise also for the health system of Bangladesh, which is showing that health care for all can be a good starting point to overcome poverty.
